Reflexology

Plantar reflexology is a natural, manual technique that frees the body’s self-regulating abilities.

It is based on the following principle

The foot is the miniaturized representation of the human body, each reflex zone corresponds to an organ, a gland or a specific part of the body. Rhythmic pressures applied to these reflex zones make it possible to localize the tensions and restore equilibrium in the corresponding parts of the body. It is an ancient manual practice that is part of natural medicine.

Reflexology is used in particular

  • To relax; stress being the root of many physical and psychological dysfunctions.
  • To activate the blood and lymphatic circulation, to stimulate the emunctories and to regulate the nervous system.

And also...

  • To prevent, relieve or even eliminate a large number of disorders and promote self-regulation and well-being.
  • favorise l’élimination des toxines
  • harmonise la circulation sanguine, lymphatique, nerveuse, hormonale….

Our Customers

This is what our customers have to say

Had my first reflexology treatment with Thierry. Thierry was very professional. Entering the treatment room was the start of the treatment with a feeling of calm . The reflexology was incredibly relaxing using the right amount of pressure putting me in a zone of healing colours and leaving me feeling relaxed but energized and my feet soft and renewed from the lovely oil. Would highly recommend. If you don’t like your feet being touched, it would make a great gift for someone who does . Tracy

 The treatment

Each session starts with a dialogue where we discuss your expectations. You will then relax on a massage table .

Each treatment is preceded by a relaxation and preparation phase.

I may also have to ask you about the sensations of some reflex zones because it is possible that some areas of the foot are more sensitive than others and it is important that you signal them to me. I adapt my pressure to your feeling and to the worked areas. The work consists of alternating movements of “crawling”, “pressure-rotation” and smoothing. When the treatment is over, we take the time to discuss your feelings. This information will be noted in order to best prepare for the next session. I will make some recommendations or suggestions that it is important to take into account in order to optimize the benefits of your reflexology session.

The duration of the session:

The session lasts 60 minutes (the duration depends on the problem). The sessions for children are shorter.

The frequency of the sessions:

The frequency varies from one person to another and depends on the problem and your expectations.

A few sessions or even a single session may be enough to relieve a recent affection (example: back pain). More work is usually needed for chronic problems.

The answers to reflexology are variable, some people will react very quickly; others will react to this technique after several sessions.

In all cases, reflexology brings relaxation and it is a perfect relaxing break.

The origine of reflexology

The earliest of Reflexology-related practice comes from Egypt and dates back to 2330 BC. A pictogram found in Sakkarah, in the tomb of Ankhmahor a Pharaoh doctor. On his sarcophagus were scenes of dental care, deliveries, embalming, pharmacology and… Reflexology! There is foot reflexology and palmer care. The translation of his hieroglyphs: “please appease the pain”, “I would do as you please”.

In China, the ideogram “foot” literally means “part of the body that safeguards health”. According to some sources, reflexology claims 5000 years of existence in China. Chinese medicine has long recognized the links between one part of the body and another, which is one of the bases of reflexology. Despite a period when reflexology was restricted to promote obedience and erase the knowledge of the past under Emperor Shi Huangdi, she resumed her position In Asia the footprint of Buddha is illustrated by different small boxes. These representations of feet, whether Buddha’s or Vishnu’s, are today known for their religious and spiritual values, but at that time art, science and spirituality formed an inseparable whole. Finally, it is also possible that reflexology draws its origins from the Inca people and American Indians, but their culture of oral transmission does not allow us to provide documents but this technique is very present in their stories.

20th century Reflexology

In the early 20th century, an American ENT doctor, Dr. Fitzgerald, became interested in this technique of “not treating the feet” (and hands). He proposes a division of the body into 10 longitudinal and vertical zones, from the top of the head to the end of the toes, and develops what he calls “zonal therapy”. He finds that a local pressure on a finger or toe has an antalgic effect at a distance, on one of the 10 areas of the body, and that it can soothe the pain felt in the painful area. He uses this zonal therapy in his ORL operations.

Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist and Dr. Fitzgerald’s collaborator, continued his research. She refines the location of areas and set up a real map where the whole body is represented on the hands and feet. She writes the first book of reflexology, and opens the first school. Eunice Ingham is considered the pioneer of modern reflexology in the West, in the 1930s.
